The Plagron Seedbox Germination Kit is a compact propagation system that gives seeds the best possible start in buffered coco plugs with a purpose-built nutrient solution. Twelve seeds fit inside a lidded tray that works like a miniature greenhouse — warm, humid, and controlled. Pour in the included Seedbooster, plant your seeds, clip the lid shut, and let Plagron's formulation do the heavy lifting while you wait for green.
Every Plagron Seedbox Germination Kit arrives ready to use straight out of the packaging. No extra trips to the grow shop, no mixing nutrients from scratch. Here's what you get:

The plugs are the real star here. Coco coir holds moisture without waterlogging, and Plagron pre-buffers the pH so you're not faffing about with pH pens before you've even popped a seed. Each plug has a central hole sized for seed placement at roughly 5 mm depth — deep enough to anchor the taproot, shallow enough that the seedling breaks through without a struggle.

We've watched people try every trick in the book — damp kitchen paper on a plate, seeds balanced on a glass of water, random soil from the garden centre. Some of those methods work. Sometimes. The problem is consistency. One seed germinates in 48 hours, another rots, a third sits there doing nothing for a week. By the time you've transplanted the survivors into their pots, they're already stressed and behind schedule.
The Plagron Seedbox Germination Kit removes most of the variables. The coco plugs hold a consistent moisture level. The transparent lid traps humidity around 90%, which is exactly where you want it for germination. And the Seedbooster solution feeds the seedling from the moment the taproot appears — no guessing when to start nutrients. Plants that get off to a strong start in the first 7–10 days develop larger root zones faster, which translates directly into more vigorous vegetation and, eventually, heavier and more aromatic flowers.
The honest limitation? Twelve plugs is twelve plugs. If you're running a full tent with 20+ seeds, you'll need two kits or a larger propagator. For most home growers running 4–12 plants per cycle, though, one Seedbox does the job. And the tray itself is sturdy enough to clean and reuse with fresh plugs and Seedbooster Plus (sold separately) if you want to run it again next round — just give it a proper wash between uses.
One thing we see growers get wrong: leaving the lid on too long after germination. Once the seedlings are up, they need airflow. Keeping the dome sealed at that point invites mould. Lid off, light on — that's the rule once you see green.
The 250 ml Seedbooster included in the Plagron Seedbox Germination Kit is formulated specifically for use with the kit's 12 coco plugs. You pour the whole bottle in, and that's your lot — one bottle, one tray, done. Seedbooster Plus, on the other hand, is a concentrated version sold separately in smaller bottles (10 ml). You dilute Seedbooster Plus with water and can use it to moisten seeds in any setup — paper towels, rockwool cubes, or refilled Seedbox trays. If you plan to reuse the tray or germinate outside the kit, Seedbooster Plus is the one to grab.
Complete your propagation setup with Plagron Seedbooster Plus for future germination rounds, or pick up a Plagron Green Sensation to push your plants hard during flowering. If you're transplanting into soil, Plagron Lightmix is a solid, lightly fertilised base that won't overwhelm young seedlings fresh out of the Seedbox.
We've sold germination kits since the early days of the shop, and the Plagron Seedbox is the one we hand to people who just want the process to work without fuss. It's not the cheapest way to germinate — you could use a damp paper towel and a ziplock bag for nearly nothing. But the germination rate we see customers report with the Seedbox is noticeably higher, and the seedlings come out stocky and healthy rather than pale and leggy. The buffered coco plugs make a genuine difference compared to unbuffered alternatives, where pH swings can stall a seed before it even cracks.
Compared to a Jiffy pellet tray or a basic seed starter from the garden centre, the Plagron kit costs more upfront but includes the nutrient solution. With Jiffy pellets, you're still buying a separate seedling feed. The Seedbox bundles everything into one purchase, one pour, one lid — and the instructions in the box are clear enough that a first-time grower can follow them without watching three YouTube videos first. That said, if you're germinating more than 12 seeds at a time, a larger propagator with a heat mat will serve you better. For runs of 4–12 seeds, the Seedbox hits the mark.
A growing tray, 12 pH-buffered coco germination plugs, a 250 ml bottle of Seedbooster (NPK 5-4-7), a transparent snap-fit humidity lid, and a multi-language instruction manual. Everything you need for one full round of 12 seeds.
Yes. The tray is rigid plastic and holds up to multiple uses. Wash it thoroughly with warm water between rounds to prevent mould or salt buildup. You'll need fresh coco plugs and a bottle of Seedbooster Plus (sold separately) for each subsequent run.
The 250 ml Seedbooster in the kit is a ready-to-use solution designed for the 12 included plugs — pour the whole bottle in. Seedbooster Plus is a concentrated 10 ml formula you dilute with water, suitable for any germination method and for refilling the tray on future runs.
Most seeds crack within 2–5 days at 20–25°C. Some strains take up to 7 days. If nothing has happened after 10 days, the seed was likely not viable. Temperature consistency matters more than anything — avoid cold windowsills.
No. The 250 ml of Seedbooster provides enough moisture for the germination phase. Adding extra water dilutes the nutrient concentration and can waterlog the plugs. Only add moisture if the plugs feel noticeably dry after several days, and then just a light misting.
As soon as seedlings emerge above the plug surface. Leaving the lid on after germination traps too much moisture and encourages mould. Once you see green, take the lid off and get light onto those seedlings immediately.
Yes. Once roots appear at the bottom of the plug, transplant the whole plug into your chosen medium. The coco coir breaks down naturally and won't restrict root growth. No need to remove or tear the plug apart.
