Stash & storage
by Qnubu
The Qnubu Vacuum Sealer is a compact food-grade sealing device that removes air from storage bags to dramatically extend the shelf life of dried products — cannabis flowers, dried mushrooms, herbs, and anything else you want to keep fresh. Two modes (vacuum + seal, or seal only), 10 bags included, and the whole process takes about 15 seconds. It's the kind of tool you use once and wonder how you ever managed without it.
Oxygen is the enemy of freshness. The moment you leave dried cannabis flowers or shrooms sitting in a jar or baggie, oxidation starts breaking down the compounds you actually care about — terpenes, potency, flavour. Moisture creeps in too, and once mould gets a foothold, the whole batch is done. We've had customers bring in jars of home-grown that looked fine on top but had a fuzzy surprise at the bottom. That's wasted time, wasted product, and wasted money.
A vacuum sealer solves this by pulling the air out and heat-sealing the bag shut. No oxygen means no oxidation. No airflow means no moisture exchange. Your cured buds stay at the humidity level you sealed them at, terpene profiles hold up, and potency doesn't degrade nearly as fast. According to research on vacuum sealing and shelf life, removing oxygen significantly slows the degradation processes that affect stored food and botanical products (PMC9914655). The same principle applies to dried psilocybin mushrooms and truffles — as long as they're bone-dry before sealing, they'll keep for months without losing their kick.
And honestly, the smell factor alone is worth it. A vacuum-sealed bag doesn't leak scent the way a zip-lock does. If discretion matters to you — whether that's a shared flat or just keeping your storage cupboard from smelling like a coffeeshop — this is the move.

It's a lightweight, no-nonsense unit — not much bigger than a large baguette. The plastic housing feels sturdy enough for regular home use, though we wouldn't call it industrial-grade. The buttons are clearly labelled and there are only two of them, which is refreshing. No menus, no settings to scroll through. You press one button and wait for the lights. That's it.
The seal it produces is solid — a thick heat-welded line across the bag that doesn't peel apart easily. We've squeezed sealed bags fairly hard without them popping. The vacuum suction is strong enough to compress a bag of buds tightly around the contents, which is exactly what you want for long-term storage. The machine does get slightly warm after 4-5 consecutive seals, so if you're doing a big batch, give it a minute between rounds.
One honest limitation: the 30 cm maximum seal width means you're working with smaller bags. If you're trying to vacuum-seal a full turkey or a massive harvest, this isn't the device for that. It's built for personal-scale storage — a few grams here, a stash bag there, maybe some portions of dried herbs for the kitchen. For that purpose, it's spot on.
We get asked this a lot behind the counter: "Can't I just use a jar?" You can. Mason jars with Boveda packs are a solid short-term storage method for cannabis — they'll keep your flower in good shape for a few weeks to a couple of months. But jars still contain air, and every time you open one, you're introducing fresh oxygen and potentially moisture. Over 3-6 months, you'll notice the difference.
Zip-lock bags are worse. They're not airtight (despite the name), they build up static that pulls trichomes off your buds, and they do almost nothing for odour. Compared to both options, vacuum sealing is a clear step up for anything you're storing longer than a month. The Qnubu is the best vacuum sealer for personal stash storage if you don't need a full kitchen-scale unit — it's compact, affordable, and does exactly what you need without the bulk of a FoodSaver or chamber sealer.
After years of selling storage gear, here's what we've learned works:
First — and this is critical for shrooms and truffles — make sure your product is completely dry before vacuum sealing. If there's any residual moisture trapped in the bag, you're creating a sealed environment where mould can still develop. Use a food dehydrator or wait until your mushrooms snap cleanly when bent. If they bend, they're not ready.
Second, don't over-pack the bags. Leave at least 8-10 cm of empty bag above the contents. The vacuum chamber needs that space to grip the bag properly and create a clean seal. Overstuffed bags lead to weak seals that can pop open in storage.
Third, store your vacuum-sealed bags somewhere cool and dark. The seal keeps air out, but heat and UV light can still degrade terpenes and active compounds through the bag material. A drawer, a cupboard, or the back of a shelf works perfectly.
Once you've used your 10 included bags, pick up a fresh pack of Qnubu Vacuum Bags to keep your sealer running. Pair the vacuum sealer with a Boveda Humidity Pack inside the bag for the ultimate cannabis storage setup — the vacuum removes bulk air while the Boveda maintains the exact relative humidity your buds prefer.
Properly cured and vacuum-sealed cannabis flowers can maintain their potency and terpene profile for 6-12 months when stored in a cool, dark place. Without vacuum sealing, noticeable degradation typically starts within 2-3 months.
Yes, as long as they are fully dried before sealing. Mushrooms should snap cleanly when bent — if they're still flexible, they contain moisture and could develop mould inside a sealed bag. Once properly dried and vacuum sealed, they store well for months.
Vacuum sealing removes the air from a specially textured bag and then heat-seals the opening shut. By eliminating oxygen, it dramatically slows oxidation and prevents moisture exchange, keeping dried products fresher for far longer than jars or zip-lock bags.
Technically yes, if the bag is still intact and you cut below the existing seal to reopen it. You'll lose a centimetre or two of bag length each time. For hygiene reasons, we'd recommend fresh bags if you're storing different products.
It works with standard textured/embossed vacuum bags up to 30 cm wide. The textured channel pattern on the bag is what allows air to be drawn out. Smooth bags without this texture won't vacuum properly — they'll seal, but the air stays trapped.
It produces a moderate hum during the vacuum phase — roughly comparable to an electric toothbrush. It's not silent, but it's not disruptive either. The entire process lasts about 10-15 seconds, so the noise is brief.
Absolutely. Vacuum sealing meat, fish, or vegetables before freezing prevents freezer burn and extends freezer storage life significantly. It's the same principle — remove the oxygen, slow the degradation.
