The APE Ready-2-Grow Bag is a sealed all-in-one cultivation bag for Albino Penis Envy — the most potent Psilocybe cubensis mutation available through Azarius, with analytically tested psilocybin concentrations exceeding 0.9% dry weight. That's roughly double what you'd get from a Golden Teacher kit. No substrate prep, no sterile workspace, no prior growing experience needed. Activate the bag, hold it at 21-25°C, and you'll be looking at ghostly white mushrooms with thick stems and stubby half-open caps in 3-4 weeks.
Albino Penis Envy produces roughly twice the psilocybin per gram compared to standard cubensis strains. According to Gotvaldová et al. (2021, Journal of Chromatography A), APE specimens returned psilocybin concentrations above 0.9% dry weight, while Golden Teacher typically lands between 0.4-0.6% and McKennaii sits at 0.6-0.8%. Some APE samples have tested at nearly 3% total tryptamine content — that puts this strain closer to Panaeolus cyanescens territory than to anything you'd normally associate with cubensis.
What does that mean in practice? It means 1 g dried APE can deliver the intensity of 2-2.5 g Golden Teacher. Onset can begin within 20-30 minutes rather than the 45-60 minute build most cubensis users expect. The character of the experience differs too — APE is known for intense fractal geometry overlaid on real surfaces, strong somatic sensations, and a depth that catches people off guard if they dose it like regular cubensis. This is not a strain you eyeball.
| Strain | Psilocybin (% dry weight) | Relative Potency | Onset Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Golden Teacher | 0.4-0.6% | Baseline | 45-60 min |
| McKennaii | 0.6-0.8% | ~1.5x Golden Teacher | 30-45 min |
| Albino Penis Envy (APE) | Above 0.9% | ~2-2.5x Golden Teacher | 20-30 min |
According to a study exploring Psilocybe cubensis strains (PMC, 2025), preclinical research has shown more pronounced effects from psilocybin-containing mushroom extracts compared to isolated psilocybin or psilocin alone — supporting the idea that the full tryptamine profile matters, not just the headline psilocybin number. APE's nearly 3% total tryptamine content suggests a broader alkaloid contribution to the overall experience.
APE is a genetic cross of PF Albino and the original Penis Envy strain, developed in the early 2000s. The albino mutation strips nearly all pigment from the fruiting bodies, leaving you with pale, almost translucent mushrooms that look nothing like typical cubensis. The caps stay small and half-open — they rarely flatten out like a Golden Teacher would. Stems are thick and dense. When you pick one up, it feels heavier than it looks. The flesh bruises a deep blue almost instantly, which tells you everything about the psilocybin concentration before you even weigh it.
The bag arrives fully colonised and sealed. Inside is a grain-based substrate already inoculated with APE mycelium. You don't need to buy spawn, mix substrate, or work in front of a still-air box. The sealed design means contamination risk drops to nearly zero — which matters, because APE mycelium colonises slower than most cubensis strains and gives contaminants more time to compete in an open environment.

We'd be doing you a disservice if we didn't mention the trade-offs. APE is a slow coloniser. Where a Golden Teacher kit might show pins within 10-14 days, APE can take the full 3-4 weeks before you see anything happening. Patience isn't optional here — it's the entire game. If you open the bag early or fiddle with it because "nothing's happening," you'll introduce contaminants and lose the batch.
This bag produces one flush. You won't get the 2-3 flushes you'd expect from a standard cubensis grow kit. But here's the thing: because APE is roughly twice as potent gram-for-gram, you need half the material to reach the same place. The 15-40 sessions estimate accounts for that potency. One flush of APE goes further than you'd think.
The other honest point: this is not a strain for your first time with mushrooms. The fast onset and intensity can be overwhelming if you're calibrating based on Golden Teacher experiences. If you haven't grown or consumed cubensis before, start with a Golden Teacher or Mexican grow kit, get a feel for the process and the effects, then come back for APE when you know your own sensitivity.
The entire process takes about 5 minutes of active work. The rest is waiting.
Because APE runs at roughly 2x the psilocybin concentration of standard cubensis, your usual dosing framework needs adjusting. Clinical studies on psilocybin have used weight-based dosing protocols — and while those studies typically use synthetic psilocybin, the principle of accurate measurement applies directly here. A kitchen scale that reads to 0.1 g is the minimum; a 0.01 g jewellery scale is better.
Community dosing discussions consistently note that users who typically take 2-4 g of regular cubensis find APE requires roughly half that weight for equivalent intensity. We've seen this pattern repeatedly over the years at Azarius — customers come back saying "I dosed it like Golden Teacher and it was far more than I expected." Weigh carefully. Start lower than you think you need.
We've been selling grow kits since the early days of the shop — over 25 years now. APE is the kit we get the most follow-up questions about, and 90% of those questions boil down to two things: "Why is nothing happening yet?" (answer: APE is slow, give it time) and "I used my Golden Teacher dose and it was way too strong" (answer: halve your usual weight). The sealed bag format has cut contamination complaints to almost nothing compared to the old open-tub kits. It's genuinely the easiest way to grow the hardest-hitting cubensis strain available.
One thing we notice in the shop: people underestimate how different APE looks from other cubensis. The fruits are pale, almost ghostly white, with thick stubby stems and caps that barely open. They look like albino thumbs more than classic mushrooms. Don't mistake the unusual appearance for underdevelopment — that's just what APE does. If the caps have a slight blue tinge at the edges, you're looking at a perfectly mature specimen.
Complete your setup: grab a Jewellery Scale (0.01 g precision) for accurate dosing — with APE's potency, eyeballing is a genuinely bad idea. If this is your first cultivation project, consider starting with a Golden Teacher Ready-2-Grow Bag to learn the process with a more forgiving strain, then graduate to APE once you're comfortable.
APE tests above 0.9% psilocybin dry weight — roughly double the 0.4-0.6% typical of Golden Teacher (Gotvaldová et al., 2021). In practical terms, 1 g dried APE delivers intensity comparable to 2-2.5 g Golden Teacher. Always weigh your dose with a precision scale.
Expect 3-4 weeks from activation to harvest. APE colonises slower than most cubensis strains. Don't open the bag to check progress — the sealed environment is what keeps contamination out.
One flush. The sealed bag format is optimised for a single productive flush. Because APE is approximately twice as potent as standard cubensis, one flush yields 15-40 sessions worth of material.
Keep it between 21-25°C. A consistent room temperature works fine. Below 20°C, colonisation slows dramatically. Above 26°C, you risk bacterial contamination. No direct sunlight — ambient indoor light is sufficient.
The growing process is straightforward — the sealed bag handles humidity and sterility for you. The strain itself, however, is not a good first mushroom experience. If you've never consumed cubensis before, start with Golden Teacher to calibrate your sensitivity before moving to APE.
Harvest when caps are still half-open and rounded. Unlike most cubensis strains, APE caps rarely flatten out fully. Waiting for full cap opening usually means you've waited too long. Twist gently at the base to remove.
Dry them immediately after harvest using a food dehydrator or fan. Store in an airtight container with a silica gel packet, away from light and heat. Properly stored, potency holds for 6-12 months.
The albino mutation strips pigment from the fruiting bodies, producing pale white mushrooms with thick stems and small caps. The unusual appearance is genetic — not a sign of underdevelopment or contamination. Blue bruising at the edges indicates high psilocybin content.
