The Best Buds Metal Rolling Tray Large is a heavy-duty metal rolling tray measuring 17.5 x 27.5 x 2cm, built to give you a clean, flat, lipped surface that keeps your herb exactly where it should be. If you've been rolling on book covers, laptop lids, or the back of your phone, this is the upgrade you didn't know you needed — until you stop losing half your grind to the carpet.
The Best Buds Metal Rolling Tray Large comes in four variants, each with its own graphic print. The tray dimensions and material are identical across all four — this is purely a style choice.
| Variant | SKU | Vibe |
|---|---|---|
| Dabbing | HS0812 | For the extract enthusiasts — bold, concentrate-culture artwork |
| Pineapple Express | HS0813 | Tropical, film-nod energy — the crowd favourite |
| Purple Haze | HS0814 | Classic psychedelic palette — looks good on a shelf |
| Smoke Me | HS0815 | Playful, Alice-in-Wonderland-adjacent — conversation starter |
No wrong answer here. We'd lean towards the Pineapple Express if you want something that pops on a coffee table, or Purple Haze if you prefer something a bit more understated. They all clean up the same way.

Complete your rolling setup: pair this tray with a proper metal grinder — the SLX or Black Leaf 4-piece will sit nicely in the corner of the tray while you work. A set of unbleached rolling papers and some glass filter tips round things out. Everything stays on the tray, nothing ends up between the sofa cushions.
We've watched people roll on everything from vinyl records to iPad screens. It works — technically. But here's what actually happens: you lose herb over the edge, crumbs end up in your keyboard, and sticky residue builds up on surfaces that weren't designed for it. A magazine might seem flat until you try to sweep kief off a glossy cover and realise half of it is stuck to Rihanna's face.
The Best Buds Metal Rolling Tray Large solves this with a 2cm raised lip around the entire perimeter. That lip is the whole point. Anything that falls off your paper, spills from your grinder, or gets nudged by your elbow stays on the tray. At 27.5cm wide, you've got enough room for your grinder, papers, filter tips, and the actual rolling — all without things crowding each other. It fits on your lap, which matters if your rolling station is the sofa rather than a desk.
The honest limitation: it's a flat metal tray, not a magnetic closing case. It doesn't have compartments, lids, or built-in storage. If you need something you can throw in a bag and take to a mate's house without spilling, a tray with a magnetic lid would serve you better. But for home use — sitting on your coffee table, always ready — this is the format that works. We've had the same style of metal tray behind our counter for years. They don't dent, the print doesn't peel, and they wipe clean in seconds.
The weight is the first thing you notice when you pick one up. It's not flimsy aluminium — it's got a solid, satisfying heft that keeps it planted on your lap. You won't accidentally slide it off your knee when you reach for a lighter. The printed surface has a very slight texture to it, which actually helps — herb doesn't slide around as much as it would on a mirror-smooth surface.
One thing worth mentioning: the grinder card that used to come with this tray is temporarily unavailable. Best Buds have flagged this as a supply issue, not a permanent change. If you specifically need a grinder card, grab one separately — but honestly, if you own a proper grinder (and you should), you won't miss it.
Compared to smaller rolling trays — the medium-sized ones that measure around 18 x 14cm — the difference in usable space is significant. The large format gives you roughly 480 square centimetres of rolling area versus about 250 on a medium. That extra space means you can keep your grinder on the tray while you roll, rather than shuffling things on and off. For the price difference, we'd pick the large every time.
The design is printed directly onto the metal surface and sealed. With normal use — rolling, wiping down, stacking — it holds up well. Abrasive scrubbing or steel wool will damage it, but a damp cloth or isopropyl wipe won't. We've seen these trays last years without visible wear.
Yes. 27.5cm gives you the width of a standard sheet of A4 paper, which is more than enough for rolling. It fits on your lap without hanging over the edges of your thighs. If you're rolling king-size papers, you'll have room to spare.
The flat metal surface works fine for handling concentrates with a dab tool. The raised lip keeps everything contained. For sticky extracts, clean the surface with isopropyl alcohol afterwards — it comes off easily from metal.
Best Buds have temporarily removed the grinder card from this product due to a supply issue. The tray itself is unchanged. If you need a grinder card, pick one up separately — though a standalone grinder does a better job anyway.
Dampen a cloth or paper towel with isopropyl alcohol (90%+ works best) and wipe the surface. Residue lifts off metal easily. Rinse with water, dry, and it's ready to go. Avoid abrasive pads — they'll scratch the print.
The base is completely flat with no raised feet or rubber pads. It sits flush on any level surface. On uneven surfaces like a sofa cushion, the rigid metal actually helps — it creates its own flat platform rather than conforming to the dip.
Metal trays are easier to clean, more durable, and don't absorb moisture or odours. Wooden trays look nice but tend to stain and can warp over time. For daily use, metal wins on practicality. Wood wins on aesthetics — it depends what matters more to you.
