by Tsunami Glass
The Metal Grinder 100mm by Tsunami Glass is a four-piece aluminium herb grinder built for people who are tired of grinding in batches. At 100mm across — that's nearly 10 centimetres of grinding surface — this is one of the largest handheld grinders we carry, and it chews through dried herbs in a few twists rather than a few dozen. If you've been nursing a 50mm grinder and wondering why prep takes so long, this is the answer sitting right in front of you. You can buy this metal grinder 100mm in 7 anodised colours, all shipping from our Amsterdam warehouse.
This grinder comes in 7 finishes: Red, Black, Gun Metal, Purple, Green, Silver, and Blue. All identical in size and build — the only difference is the anodised coating. Gun Metal and Black are the most discreet if you're keeping things low-key. Purple and Green tend to stand out in a bag, which some people prefer (harder to lose). Pick whatever makes you happy; the grinding performance is the same across the board.
A 100mm grinding chamber holds roughly 3 to 4 times the volume of a standard 50mm grinder, letting you prepare multiple sessions' worth of herb in a single load. Most grinders on the market sit between 40mm and 63mm. They work fine for a single session's worth of herb. But the moment you need to prepare a larger quantity — filling a jar for the week, prepping for a group session, or just grinding a decent amount of loose-leaf blend — a small grinder turns into a repetitive chore. Open, load, twist, empty, repeat.
The teeth on this Tsunami Glass model are tightly arranged in a diamond pattern. That matters because wide-spaced teeth let larger pieces slip through without being properly shredded, leaving you with an uneven grind. Tightly packed teeth catch everything. You get a consistent, medium-fine texture that packs evenly into bowls, vaporiser chambers, or rolling papers. We've turned this one maybe 6-7 rotations on a full load and had everything ground down — no chunks hiding between the teeth.
The honest limitation: size. At 100mm, this grinder is noticeably bigger and heavier than a pocket-sized 50mm. It fits in a jacket pocket or bag without drama, but it's not something you'll forget is there. If portability is your top priority and you only grind small amounts, a 55mm or 63mm grinder is the better shout. But if volume and speed matter more, order the 100mm — it's the one we'd reach for every time.
The Metal Grinder 100mm weighs approximately 280 grams and measures 100mm in diameter across all four aluminium sections.

Complete your setup: pair this grinder with a Rolling Tray to keep your workspace tidy, or a Smell-Proof Stash Jar to store your freshly ground herbs. If you're grinding for a vaporiser, check out the Mighty+ Vaporizer or the Volcano Hybrid — both benefit from a consistent medium grind, which is exactly what this 100mm delivers. Each of the four sections performs a distinct function: grinding, collecting, sifting, and storing pollen. The top two pieces are the grinding chamber: you drop your dried herbs in, close the magnetic lid, and twist. The diamond teeth interlock and shred the herb as you rotate. Ground material falls through holes in the base of the grinding plate into the collection chamber below.
Underneath the collection chamber sits a fine mesh screen. As you grind and handle the unit, the finest particles — pollen, trichome dust, kief — sift through the mesh and collect in the bottom compartment. Over a few weeks of regular use, you'll build up a visible layer of concentrated pollen. Nothing goes to waste. That bottom compartment unscrews cleanly, so you can tap out the collected pollen whenever you like.
The magnetic lid is a small detail that makes a real difference. Cheaper grinders rely on friction alone, and they pop open in bags. The magnet on this Tsunami Glass model holds the lid firmly while still being easy to open when you want it open. We've tossed one in a backpack and found it still sealed when we pulled it out — no herb confetti at the bottom of the bag.
Using this grinder takes under 60 seconds from loading to a finished, evenly ground result.
Since 1999, we've sold over 35,000 grinders from our Amsterdam shop in sizes ranging from 40mm to 100mm, and the pattern is always the same: people start small, then upgrade. The 100mm Tsunami Glass is where most people stop upgrading because there's simply no need to go bigger for handheld use. The weight of the metal body actually helps — you don't have to press as hard because gravity does some of the work. According to the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA), herbal preparations remain the most commonly used form across Europe, which tracks with what we see at our counter: demand for efficient grinding tools has grown roughly 18% year-on-year since 2020. The unit feels solid in the hand, not cheap or rattly. The anodised finish has a slight texture to it, which improves grip when your hands are dry.
One thing to watch: don't grind wet or freshly harvested herbs in this. Metal grinders with fine mesh screens are designed for dried material. Wet herb clogs the holes, gums up the teeth, and turns the pollen screen into a sticky mess. If your herbs aren't crumble-dry, let them air out for a day or two first.
The 100mm grinder offers approximately 2.5 times the grinding surface area of a 63mm model (~78.5 cm² vs ~31 cm²), which translates directly to fewer loads and less wrist effort.
| Feature | 63mm Grinder | 100mm Grinder (this one) |
|---|---|---|
| Chamber capacity | 1-2 sessions per load | 4-6 sessions per load |
| Grinding surface area | ~31 cm² | ~78.5 cm² |
| Portability | Fits any pocket | Jacket pocket or bag |
| Rotations needed (full load) | 8-12 | 5-8 |
| Best for | Solo, on-the-go use | Batch grinding, home use, groups |
| Weight | ~150g | ~280g — steadier in the hand |
If you only ever grind enough for one bowl or one paper at a time, a 63mm does the job. But if you find yourself grinding multiple loads back to back, get the 100mm — it saves you real time and effort. The larger diameter also means the teeth are longer and spaced further from the centre, giving you more mechanical advantage — less wrist strain per twist.
It's bigger than a standard pocket grinder, yes. It fits comfortably in a jacket pocket, backpack, or bag. You won't slip it into tight jeans, but for anything roomier it's no problem. Most people keep it at home and use a smaller grinder when they're out.
Yes — noticeably so. After about 2 weeks of regular use, you'll see a visible layer of fine pollen in the bottom compartment. The 100mm's larger screen area means it collects faster than smaller grinders. Give the unit a gentle tap after each grind to help material sift through.
Brush the teeth and mesh screen with a stiff small brush after every few uses. For a deep clean, disassemble all 4 pieces, soak them in isopropyl alcohol for 20 minutes, then rinse with warm water and dry thoroughly. Don't reassemble while any parts are still damp.
Gun Metal is a darker, charcoal-toned finish. Silver is a brighter, more reflective aluminium look. Both are anodised metal — same durability, same performance. It's purely an aesthetic choice.
You can, but tobacco tends to be more moist than dried herbs, which can clog the mesh screen faster. If you grind tobacco regularly, clean the screen more often — every 3-4 uses — to keep pollen sifting properly.
Metal grinder teeth are designed for soft dried plant material, not hard substances. With normal use on dried herbs, the teeth will stay sharp for years. Avoid grinding anything with stems thicker than a matchstick — those are what cause premature dulling.
The tightly spaced diamond teeth produce a medium-fine consistency — coarser than a coffee grinder, finer than hand-torn. It's the sweet spot for vaporisers, rolling, and packing bowls. If you want ultra-fine powder, a grinder isn't the right tool; use a mortar and pestle instead.
