The Clipper Fantasy World lighter is a refillable, flint-based pocket lighter featuring one of four collectible fantasy-themed designs. Clipper has been producing lighters in Barcelona since 1972, and these Fantasy World editions add a splash of mythical artwork to an already reliable everyday carry. You get one lighter per order — which design you receive is down to chance.
Clipper lighters have been a staple since 1972 — over 50 years of production, and they still outsell most competitors in European headshops for good reason. The body is made from durable nylon plastic, the flint housing pulls out completely for easy replacement, and the whole thing is refillable with standard butane. That last point matters: instead of tossing a dead lighter in the bin, you top it up and keep going. One Clipper can outlast a dozen disposables if you treat it right.
The Fantasy World series features four different designs — think unicorns, dragons, and other mythical creatures printed across the lighter body. The artwork is screen-printed directly onto the plastic, so it holds up better than a sticker wrap. That said, heavy daily use will eventually wear the print down around the strike wheel area. It is a lighter you carry every day, after all, not a museum piece.
Compared to a standard BIC, the Clipper has two advantages we'd point out: the removable flint system (handy for packing bowls, and it doubles as a tamper tool) and the refillable gas chamber. The BIC is marginally slimmer in the hand, but you bin it when it is empty. If you like collecting designs, the Clipper makes more sense — you refill the gas, swap the flint when it wears down, and the artwork stays on your shelf instead of in a landfill.
Each order contains one Clipper Fantasy World lighter. The specific design is selected at random from the available stock. If you order more than one, our warehouse team will do their best to send you different designs — but no guarantees. There are four designs in the Fantasy World series, so ordering four gives you the best shot at a complete set, though luck plays its part.
We have been shipping Clipper lighters from our Amsterdam warehouse since the early 2000s, and the question we get most often is "can I pick the design?" The honest answer: no. They come boxed in mixed assortments, and pulling specific ones out would slow down every order in the queue. The upside is the surprise factor — half the fun of collecting Clippers is not knowing which one lands on your doormat.

Running low on gas already? Grab a can of Clipper butane refill gas to keep your lighter topped up indefinitely. If you are after a grinder to go with it, the SLX Ceramic Coated Grinder pairs nicely — non-stick coating means less mess, and the Clipper's removable flint doubles as a handy tamper tool.
A disposable lighter lasts roughly 3,000 strikes before the fuel runs out. A Clipper lighter lasts the same 3,000 strikes — then you refill it in about 5 seconds and get another 3,000. Over a year of regular use, that is the difference between buying 10-12 disposable lighters and buying one Clipper plus a single can of butane. The maths is simple, and your bin stays lighter too.
The removable flint system is the detail that sets Clippers apart from nearly every other lighter on the market. Pull the flint housing straight up out of the lighter body, and you have got a thin poker tool — genuinely useful for packing down material or clearing a clogged pipe screen. When the flint eventually wears down to nothing (typically after a few months of daily use), you slide a new flint into the housing and carry on. No special tools, no fiddling.
One honest limitation: the standard Clipper flame is not wind-resistant. If you are trying to light up outdoors on a breezy Amsterdam canal bridge, you will be cupping your hand around it like everyone else. For windy conditions, a jet flame lighter is the better tool. But for indoor use, rolling sessions, and everyday carry, the Clipper is the best lighter under a fiver that we would actually recommend.
No. Designs are picked at random from available stock. If you order more than one, the warehouse will try to send different designs, but it is not guaranteed.
There is no fixed limit. The nylon body and valve are built to handle repeated refills over years of use. The flint wears out before the lighter body does — and that is replaceable too.
The screen-printed artwork is durable under normal use, but the area around the strike wheel will show wear over time if you use it daily. Collectors who want to preserve the design often buy two — one to use, one to display.
Any standard pressurised butane refill can with a universal nozzle will work. Clipper also produces their own branded refill gas, but it is not required — any decent butane does the job.
Yes. There is a small adjustment wheel near the base of the lighter. Turn it with a pin or small screwdriver to raise or lower the flame height. Handy if you prefer a smaller flame for precision or a taller one for quicker lights.
Clipper lighters have an integrated pressure release valve that vents excess gas if the lighter overheats. This is a standard safety feature across all Clipper models and has been part of their design for decades.
